Bill Olson is best known for coaching the Omaha Northwest High School baseball team from 1971-97. His teams won six high school state championships, eight American Legion state championships, and one National High School Championship (1983). His 1983 team, which won 53 consecutive games, was ranked No. 1 nationally in high school baseball.
Olson, who also served as the pitching and catching coach at Creighton University, had more than 1500 wins in his career and a winning percentage over .700.
In 1996, Olson was named assistant coach for the USA Junior National Team and head coach in 1997. Both teams took home Bronze Medals. In 1997, USA Baseball selected Olson as the Olympic Developmental Coach of the Year.
Olson received District 5 Coach of the Year honors four times, while being named the ABCA/Diamond National High School Baseball Coach of the Year in 1984 and the National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1995.
Olson, whose son Greg played Major League baseball for 14 years, is a member of the Midland College Hall of Fame, the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame and the Omaha Public Schools Hall of Fame.
