The American Baseball Coaches Association mourns the passing of longtime Board Member and Fourth Vice President Rob Hahne, whose passion for youth baseball, leadership within the coaching profession, and commitment to growing the game left a lasting impact throughout the country.

A dedicated 31-year ABCA member, Hahne served six years as Chair of the ABCA Youth Baseball Division on the Executive Committee and played a major role in strengthening the Association’s presence and outreach at the youth and travel baseball levels. He was the first Youth Chair to be elected to the Board of Directors and the first coach representing that division to be elected ABCA 4th Vice President.

Through innovative membership initiatives and partnerships in Virginia, he helped bring over 500 new coaches into the ABCA and helped position Virginia among the national leaders in ABCA membership. He was instrumental in moving baseball forward in Northern Virginia, improving facilities at all levels and he was the driving force behind the development of the Patriot Park Tournament Complex.

Hahne also founded and led the Youth Baseball Summit, bringing together leaders from organizations across the country to collaborate on challenges and opportunities within youth baseball. The collaboration and educational content developed through those efforts directly contributed to the creation of the ABCA Coaches Hub, providing free resources and development opportunities for youth, travel, and high school coaches nationwide.

In addition to his work with the ABCA, Hahne served as Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League (NVTBL), one of the nation’s premier travel baseball organizations serving more than 5,500 players annually throughout the Washington, D.C. metro area. He was the longtime head coach at Westfield High School and also coached at his alma mater, Langley High School. He was Commissioner of the Potomac League collegiate summer baseball league.

One of Hahne's passion projects was the Kyle’s Kamp Baseball Tournament, which began in 2010 when Rob's son, Kyle, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Since 2012, Kyle’s Kamp has raised over $2.3 million for pediatric cancer research and care.

Hahne had an unwavering dedication to helping young people and coaches and made a profound impact throughout the DMV region and nationally within youth baseball. His legacy will continue to be felt through the countless players, coaches, and organizations he influenced throughout his life.
